Unfinished Terrible Assignment the Won in the battle against Carlie Bagley

Magazine Spread

The goal of this assignment was to create a 4 page magazine spread. I've included the cover, two inside pages, and the back. I wanted to keep this layout pretty simple, and easy to navigate.

Grass On The Other Side

The first photo is my piece for the appropriation project entitled "Grass on the Other Side." The second image is a famous work by Norman Rockwell entitled "Girl at the Mirror."

I am a firm believer that all people are beautiful, and it hurts me daily to see people (girls especially) feel inferior to their peers. This work by Rockwell has always gripped me with a sense of truthfulness, and I thought I could use its concept to make my own statement about beauty. I hope that my piece will cause viewers to think critically about what makes someone beautiful. Is there a certain type of beauty that seems to be most admired among society? Are we neglecting to notice our own beauty on our quest to look and act more like those around us? Is our perception of other people's beauty even accurate, or is it tainted by our own insecurities?

I'm a bit of a naturalist, if you hadn't noticed.

A little beaneath us.

In this exercise we just had to upload a link to a photo sharing sight onto our blog. Here's the link to the facebook photo you see above. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2887666803873&set=a.1394793442972.51058.1626276313&type=3&theater

Cat avec Mustache

Step by step exercise. Simple, and I learned to use a quick mask which makes everything a LOT easier.

Amelia Airheart

We cropped Amelia's face into a photo of the first female flight team. I liked that Emmy walked us step by step through this exercise! It was a lot less confusing that way. :)

Anywhere You Want To Be

This assignment was to make a photo collage.

No Matter What Language You Speak

I couldn't help but be inspired by these anthropomorphized trees I spotted while golfing with my dad. I am glad that I snapped a photo that day, because it was perfect for this assignment. We had to choose two photos to pair together, one within the other. In this layout I hoped to make a statement about the significance a hug can have and the way it transcends words and language. Special thanks to two very special kids in my life Max and Ellie!

Double Exposure- Chapter 9

The images for this exercise were provided and most of the instructions. We mostly just had to go step by step through the directions.

Low Relief Self Portrait

This is my completed low relief self portrait, photographed a little more formally that I have previously shown you ;)

Thoughts about the toll

For those of you who don't know, there is a plan to toll the midtown tunnel beginning next fall. Yesterday, I drove through the midtown tunnel six times! SIX! It's a good thing the toll isn't in place yet or I would be broke. I am NOT looking forward to this new plan. As a matter of fact, I am dreading it. Just wanted to let you all know.

Snooki Gone Wild

We had to make a celebrity that we dislike look ridiculous. I chose Snooki and surrounded her by animals since she is wearing an animal print dress and headband. I especially like the bassett hound looking up her dress. :p

Photo Altering Exercise

In this exercise we just took an image that was provided and made adjustments using the histogram. To be honest, I didn't really understand the information the histogram was providing, so I just made adjustments by sight. I don't even really know if the adjustments I made bettered the quality of the images.

My Abe

We had to take an image of a celebrity and add pieces of a flower from a scanned image. My favorite part of this is his frilled shirt :) Simple exercise. I wish the image of Abe was higher quality.

Stupid Exercise

We had to scan an image, open it in photoshop, and put it here. I chose an entry from my sketchbook. This exercise is a little silly, but it's done now!

A Special Birthday Gift

My little cousin Keagan turned four years old on Sunday! I wanted to make something special for him, so I  decided on a tool belt. I used an old pair of my dad's jeans and some scrap camouflage fabric from a patch. Here's a quick look at the process!

Here's my self portrait complete with a few finishing touches! Feels great to have this completed, and I am actually very happy with the finished product. :)

Valentines Day

So, class has been cancelled today due to the projected low attendance. Being the nerd I am, here I sit. In class. Working on my self portrait. Even though I still have a few minor touch ups, I decided to post one more Work In Progress as a reward for my Valentines day efforts. Enjoy!

3-D Update

Other than digital art, I am also enrolled in a 3-D design class. We just finished our first project- a self portrait. I thought I'd upload a little sample of what it looks like so you can see! It's totally informal, which is what I like.

Still Working and Progressing

This is a second work in progress post. Hopefully, the next post of this project will be the final :)

Work In Progress

Thought it might be fun to post a work not yet finished! This is a line art self portrait that is in progress.

Chapter 6 Exercises

The first exercise was an experiment with the pen tool. We made the black lines with the paint brush, then had to mimic them with red using the pen tool. The Second exercise was learning to create a mask from an image.

Hey Man, I made a logo.

The first logo is my favorite, but I am not even sure if it counts as a "logo." I was inspired the other day when I found a little oak tree sprig in my garden. I pulled it out, as any good gardener would to plants threatening to intrude upon the homeostasis. Looking at the harmless little plant I had ripped from the ground, I realized I was sitting in the shadow of its parent tree- the tree it would have become with time. Even majestic oak trees began as tiny little sprouts, just like us.

The second logo is just a play on words. Dashiell is my middle name, and I prefer it to my actual last name. The eye makes it "art." haha

First Project- Interpreting a Painting

I chose a work by Caravaggio to interpret. I tried to simplify the elements while retaining the same basic composition and forms.

Hue has Value

Okay, so this is not exactly what this exercise was supposed to look like. Illustrator gave me a hard time and I couldn't complete it. However, I did try my best.

Dot Exercise

This was a homework exercise, which meant: NO HELP! (With the exception of a few classmates who were fellow procrastinators and were around for me to pick their brains)

Egon Project

This was literally my VERY first illustrator project.  This opened my eyes to just how illiterate I was in this program.

Infamous Tea Book Assignment

I seriously hope that this was the hardest assignment we will have this semester, because I could barely stand it! I stayed at class thirty minutes late the night of this assignment trying to finish up, and I am thankful my teacher was so patient! We had 18 pages of instructions to follow to replicate this exact logo! Glad to have this behind me.

Grid Systems

It was pretty much a "follow these steps" project, so this is not my design. A little annoying, no room for creativity, and I cheated making the "d" taller than the rest.
